LEDORGA proudly presents its large and unique gay event for classic car enthusiasts: the RAINBOW TOUR 2022. This tour which will take place from 1 to 8 october 2022, under the direction of  Dominique De Taverny.

PRESENTATION

For this large evenment, I propose you to discover 2 departments of France: Vienne and Charente Maritime. The starting point will be towards Poitiers, a city located on the road to the south west of France. Vienne is mainly known for the city of Poitiers and its Futuroscope  park. The Charente Maritime is famous for the very beautiful city of La Rochelle, but also the oysters of Marenne-Oléron and also the Cognac. I therefore invite you to discover these 2 pretty departments and let yourself be guided during a week’s vacation with your classic car. In order to take full advantage of this week’s vacation and be totally relaxed, no games or questions during this stay. Simply the drive in your classic cars. Of course, this meeting is reserved for classic cars over 25 years old or exceptional vehicles.

Warning: this hotel is a 3 star, so not a luxury establishment. In addition, the building is old so you have to like old stones and accept their flaws. PROGRAMME

The meeting start on Saturday 1 october 2022 at the end of the afternoon from 17:00 to 20:00 directly at the Château de Perigny hotel in Vouillé. This will therefore leave the whole day of Saturday to make the trip from home to Vouillé. Thus, no activity is planned following this day of driving. Everyone will take their room for the next 2 nights that you will spend in this establishment. In the evening, you will meet for dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Sunday October the 2d :

In the morning, drive to the city of Chatellerault. You will visit the Grand Atelier, museum of art and industry. On the site of the former Manufacture d’Armes de Châtellerault since 1969, the museum occupies part of the assembly and finishing workshop built between 1886 and 1887. The building, registered on the list of Historic Monuments, very functional industrially, is made of large spaces. It is widely lit by large windows and opens to the outside via a monumental facade. The Grand Atelier is spread over more than 3000m2 and offers three exhibition spaces: Auto Moto Vélo, more than two hundred vehicles and objects for more than two centuries of history of a civilization marked by the “land transport revolution”. The Manufacture d’armes de Châtellerault, its industrial and social history. The Cabaret du Chat Noir, created by  Rodolphe Salis (men birth in Chatellerault), is an invitation to dive into the poetic atmosphere of shadow theater and the atmosphere of Montmartre (Paris) at the end of the 19th century.

Lunch in a local restaurant in Chatellerault.

In the afternoon, drive to the Château de Savigny Sous Faye: Located in the Pinaudière park, this white stone building was built in 1826 in the Renaissance style (mullioned windows, skylights surmounted by pinnacles, rigorous symmetry of the facade, etc.)  by the barons of Cougny-Prefeln then enlarged in 1860. This private castle will open exclusively for you. On the program: offbeat tour of the premises, visit to the park and discovery of the owner’s collection of classic cars.

 Back to Vouillé.

Dinner at the Hotel Château de Perigny in Vouillé.

Monday October the 3rd :

Check out of the hotel château de Perigny.

Your route will take you to the village of Vernon. This small village near Poitiers is home to a private car collection museum. The owner will open his private museum to show you his collection of 30 classic cars but above all around forty prototypes by the Swiss designer Sbarro.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

The rest of the day will drive to the castle of Dampierre Sur Boutonne. A jewel of the Renaissance (16th century), the Domaine de Dampierre nestles in the valley of the River Boutonne, in the heart of a meander of small enchanted islands where French-style flowerbeds, a maze of boxwood, a flowering poplar grove unfold and a little wood. The castle itself is an architectural gem with its sculpted gallery with mysterious alchemical decor. It was the host of prestigious visitors, from François 1er to Louis XIII, and later the painter Dali. The estate was the scene of a life of games, science and pleasure that the fun course of the visit invites you to relive.

Arrival at the end of the afternoon at the Hotel de la Plage in Ronce les Bains.

Taken rooms for the next 5 nights.

Dinner at the hotel de la Plage in Ronce les Bains.

 Tuesday October the 4th :

In the morning, drive for the small town of Saint Nazaire sur Charente. Boarding for a short cruise to discover the Fort Boyard. The fort cannot be visited, but you can see it up close with the boat. Located equidistant between the islands of Aix and Oléron and the city of Fouras, this stone vessel was built to protect the maritime arsenal of Rochefort because at the time the firing of cannonballs was insufficient. The fort will nevertheless never be used for its initial function since the artillery will make enormous progress during the difficult construction of Fort Boyard. He will be reconverted in prison and then abandoned. It will become known thanks to the famous TV game “Les clefs du Fort Boyard” (name in France). Today Fort Boyard is the Ambassador of Charente Maritime since its notoriety is international!

Meal in a local restaurant.

After the meal, you will drive towards Rochefort. You will visit the Naval Aeronautics Museum: The largest museum in France solely dedicated to Naval Aeronautics, “of international quality” say connoisseurs, on the historic site of the Navy in Rochefort. Thirty three aircraft, from the Dewoitine 520 to the Super Frelon and the Crusader. 1,500 exceptional models, ranging from the “Zeppelin” to the rocket plane and the “stealth” of the Gulf War, 200 museum pieces, a rich library of a thousand volumes, all exhibited on nearly 4000 M2.

You will then drive towards Fort Louvois. It is a 17th century maritime fortification, built on a rock submerged at high tide, between the Ile d’Oléron and the Bassin de Marennes. Its construction, decided by Louvois, Minister of War for Louis XIV, was carried out from 1691 to 1694 according to plans by Vauban. The objective was to cross the cannon fire with the Citadel of Oléron to defend the maritime arsenal of Rochefort (again!). Designed in the shape of a horseshoe, with a central keep – protected by a drawbridge and a moat, it is reminiscent of the fortified castles of the Middle Ages.

Back to Ronce les Bains.

Dinner at the hotel de la Plage in Ronce les Bains.

 Wednesday October the 5th :

Departure towards Les Carrières de Crazannes labeled “Echappées Nature”. This unusual site in Saintonge area takes you deep into the bowels of the earth to discover the famous “Pierre de Crazannes” (stone of Crazannes). It is both an interesting geological visit, in the heart of a natural site. But also an immersion in the history of its exploitation over the ages. Its museum also shows you an original heritage around the quarry trade, the transport and the use of stone.

Then, the Pierre de Crazannes is still used for sculpture and the work can be seen at Lapidiales place: The idea of this unique site in France comes from Alain Tenenbaum, a sculptor wishing to “create an art space in perpetual evolution”. In 2001, the Lapidiales took over the former Chabossières quarry and since then teams of sculptors have succeeded one another to bring the immense white limestone walls to life. The place now offers visitors an open-air museum, where the excavations left by the quarrymen give the impression of being in the middle of a giant labyrinth and where one enjoys discovering the sculptures grouped by theme: “The monument to the dead for nothing”, “From the abyss to the azure”, “In the belly of the world”, “Earth, planet, life”, “The imaginary of the river”.

Meal at local restaurant.

Then, you will drive towards the abbey of Sablonceaux. Built in the heart of the countryside, it proudly raises its magnificent bell tower. Damaged by multiple wars, it is reborn each time from its ruins. It offers an exceptional range of architecture from the 12th to the 18th centuries. You can freely visit part of the Abbey – classified as historical monuments – including the 12th century abbey church, the magnificent chapter house and the entrance porch from where you can admire the American walnut of 150 years listed by GEO magazine as a remarkable tree.

After, very close, visit of the Biteau vineyard. The Biteau vineyard is made up of 29 hectares of vines, including 7 hectares in production of IGP Charentais wines (rosé, white, red), 2 hectares in the Pineau des Charentes appellation and 20 hectares intended for Cognac. In October, the grape harvest will be active, and you will be able to see the work of the grape harvest in the vines. Of course, a vineyard visit would not be complete without a tasting of the Biteau wines.

Back to Siorac Ronce les Bains.

Dinner at the hotel de la Plage in Ronce les Bains.

Thursday October th 6th :

Departure for Archiac. The region being famous for its wines, cognac and pineaux, it is necessary to store all its beverages. And for that, you have to make wooden barrels. You will therefore visit the Allary cooperage which opens its doors to you for a guided tour of its workshops. It will take you to the heart of an ancestral know-how that will immerse you in half a century of art and tradition. The manufacture of wooden barrels will have no more secrets for you.

Meal at local restaurant.

For the afternoon, you will drive to Le Château de Plassac, jewel of the Charentais heritage and property of the Dampierre family, combining wine passion, tradition and French art of living. For more than two centuries and eight generations, the Dampierre family has been producing exceptional Cognacs at Château de Plassac. The wines made from Ugni Blanc and Colombards grapes exclusively from the property’s vineyards are distilled in the traditional still, respecting the Charente double distillation. The cognac eaux-de-vie are then aged between 15 and 20 years in oak barrels stamped with the family coat of arms. The magnificent Château de Plassac is proud to produce award-winning cognacs such as during the Concours Général Agricole de Paris in 2015, where the XO and obtained 5 gold medals.

 Back to Ronce les Bains.

Dinner at the hotel de la Plage in Ronce les Bains.

Friday October the 7th :

Direction the city of Thou and its new automobile museum of Aunis. This museum which includes 70 old cars (from 1912 to 1973) under 34 different brands including 27 French brands, a dozen motorcycles but also more than 150 enamel plates and a few petrol pumps  from the 1920 to 1950. As well as the reproduction of a small garage. The museum comes from a private collection created by Gilles Gaudissard and it presents a collection of 70 vehicles restored or in their original state. About 50 cars drive regularly during outings and demonstrations. The restorations are made by the museum.

Meal at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will drive towards the village of Beurlay. Founded in 1848 by the Barraud family, “la patisserie Beurlay” was one of the first to offer the real Charentaise galette, skilfully flavored with a hint of angelica. Since then, four generations have succeeded to make this company one of the jewels of Charente-Maritime. The Charentaise galette is their specialty and they wanted to preserve its traditions to deliver a melt-in-the-mouth pastry. A true moment of pleasure.

Then, visit the Château de la Roche Courbon. Built in the 15th century on a rocky outcrop, the fortified castle was transformed into a pleasure residence in the 17th century by the Marquis Jean-Louis de Courbon. Its magnificent French gardens offer you a timeless moment of relaxation in an exceptional environment. Go on a guided tour of the inhabited and fully furnished castle. Not to be missed: the cabinet of paintings on wood and the sumptuous French gardens and a free visit to the French gardens.
