For this SWEET TRIP, you will enjoy your weekend of relaxation with walks, nice roads, convivial meals and visiting the heritage. In short, the slogan for this weekend is simple and remains the same: come, discover, enjoy and relax with your classic car! For your convenience, the road book will be translated into English and French, and the program will be translated into English and French. It is important to note that this rally is reserved for classic vehicles (more than 25 years old) or exceptions (rare vehicles produced in few copies).

PROGRAMME

This Sweet Trip starts on Friday afternoon 19th april 2023 at Hotel Novotel Rouen Sud. Everyone will take his room, then dinner will be waiting for you. For late evening, the hotel bar will be open.

Saturday 20th april, direction the small village of Pont Saint Pierre at a place called Fontaine-Guérard to discover an unexpected and atypical place: the Levavasseur spinning mill. The romantic ruin of this industrial cathedral is a surprising and magical place in the middle of the countryside. We find very early on this site of Fontaine-Guérard, the presence of a mill to supply energy to a spinning mill of wool, cotton and manufacture of sheets. In 1822, the Levavasseur family became the owners of the premises. Following various fires in 1851, Charles Levavasseur decided to raze the site and establish a new factory. In 1855, he plans to rebuild the spinning mill. To run the spinning machines planned for 300 workers, he diverted the course of the nearby river and had a canal built which provided a 3.6 m waterfall. Work began in 1857. The factory, in the English neo-Gothic style, is 114 m long and 26 m wide and the octagonal towers at the four corners rise to 38 m in height. A second spinning mill, called “small spinning mill” (96 m long and 20 m wide) is built nearby. In 1861, the factory began production. On August 23, 1874, a fire ravaged the large spinning mill. Charles Levavasseur then passed the business on to his son Arthur. As the insurance could not cover all the work, only the small spinning mill was restored and put back into operation. In 1913, a new fire took place but did not prevent the activity from continuing. On December 16, 1946, a new fire in the small spinning mill put an end to all activity on the site. Only a building is rebuilt to the right of the dam where a power station is installed.

Then, you will take the direction of the city of Vernon for lunch in a local restaurant.

After the meal, you will head to the Château de Bizy. In Vernon, discover this castle built in 1740 in a classical style inspired by Versailles. Louis XV, the Duke of Penthièvre and Louis-Philippe (last king of the French) were the owners! You will discover the lounges decorated with beautiful woodwork and the memories of the Bonaparte family, as well as marshals Suchet, Masséna and Davout. Not to be missed: the Gobelins tapestries and a marquetry pedestal table offered by Napoleon 1st. Stroll through the English-style park with hundred-year-old trees, and admire its fountains, ponds and 18th century statues.

You will then take the road back to Rouen, but a stop is planned. You can admire the Château de la Battellerie from afar from the banks of the Seine. At the start of the 20th century, Louis Renault sought to acquire an estate in the countryside, and in 1906 he chose the town of Herqueville. This town first seduced him with its location, a hundred kilometers from Paris and easily accessible from the capital. Furthermore, due to its position in the heart of the Seine valley, the site has both good cultivable land (for the farm) and access to the river (Louis Renault, owner of a yacht, is a great amateur of walks on the water). Finally, the environment of Herqueville, surrounded by game-filled forests, was also seen as an asset by Louis Renault, who was passionate about hunting at the time. The Renault d’Herqueville estate was Louis Renault’s country “home” until his death in 1944.

In the late afternoon, return to the hotel Novotel Rouen Sud. Dinner is served in the hotel restaurant. For the evening, the bar is at your disposal for a discussion over a drink.

Sunday 21th april, direction the village of Saint Pierre de Varengeville. Art is offered to you in a jewel of 19th century Normandy architecture. Composed of a park of several hectares, varied gardens and monumental works, but also a 19th century Normandy castle which houses exhibitions, the Center d’art contemporain Matmut – Daniel Havis is an atypical place. Come and stroll there for a walk between art and nature. The Contemporary Art Center hosts 4 exhibitions of international, national or regional artists each year and 2 events Composed of thematic gardens, the 6-hectare park is dotted with 17 monumental works.

Then you will take the road towards Doudeville. At the entrance to this small village lost in the countryside, there is an unexpected place: the cabaret Le Puits Enchanté. This Queer cabaret offers a transformist lunch show. Who has never dreamed of meeting Cher, Madonna, Celine Dion, Amy Winehouse and so many others in the same place? On the program for your day: meal and cabaret review. All in a friendly atmosphere, under the sign of emotion, music, glitter, rhinestones, glamor and of course humor. The lunch show takes place in several parts with the artists. A unique moment and a total of more than 4 hours of show that you will not be ready to forget!

In the late afternoon, return to the hotel Novotel Rouen Sud. Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant. For the evening, the bar is at your disposal for a discussion over a drink.

Monday 22th april, get up at the time you want! The breakfast room is open until 10:00. Then everyone is free to go back to his home. For those in a hurry, they can leave early in the morning. For the others, it will be possible to keep his room until noon or to extend the stay in the region and to discover individually other curiosities.
