PRESENTATION

I have the honor and pleasure to present to you the CHOUETTE RALLYE, which will take place on the weekend of 25th to28th october 2024, under the direction of Dominique De Taverny.

The CHOUETTE RALLYE is a surprise car rally at night in order to put a little “spice” and “bite” in the competition. You have the games, puzzles or questionnaires that will put your mind and your logic to work. However, nothing too complicated or too arduous in order to best preserve the good atmosphere that you will bring to this unique event! You will have a detailed road book so you don’t get lost. The main purpose of this outing is above all fun and relaxation. The rest of the weekend will be devoted to driving and exploring the region. It is important to note that this rally is preferably reserved for classic cars (more than 25 years old) or exceptions (rare vehicles produced in few copies). For this year 2023, this is less in the night, more in the day.

I am counting on you to support this new event and hope to welcome you all on the 25th october 2024

PROGRAM

The meeting will begin on Friday 25th October 2024 at the end of the afternoon directly at the Best Western hotel du lac Dunkerque in Armbouts-Cappel (59). Everyone will have their own room, can relax for a while in it or have a drink at the bar, then dinner will be waiting for you. For the end of the evening, the bar will be open.

On Saturday 26 October, drive from the hotel towards the Eperlecques blockhaus. It was on 22th December 1942 that Hitler gave the order to build a blockhouse in the north of France for the assembly and launch of V2 rockets for the attack on England. All that remained was to find a location that could allow such a project to be carried out. A certain number of important criteria had to be met: Relatively easy accessibility by rail and possibly by river was necessary because of the considerable input of materials that the construction of a blockhouse of this size would require. After examining a certain number of locations, the Eperlecques region was chosen. In March 1943 work began… But Allied bombing quickly made the site unproductive. You will be able to discover V1 and V2, but also the history of this site.

Lunch at local restaurant.

In the afternoon, head to the village of Ouve-Wirquin. On the program, visit to the “AA brigades” automobile museum. Located in a former 19th century paper mill, the museum invites you to go back in time with more than 150 vehicles dating from the end of the 19th century to the 1980s: automobiles, motorcycles, scooters, bicycles, military vehicles… These vehicles also participate in film shootings, such as The Little Murders of Agatha Christie on France 2 channel. A museum which will be open exclusively for your visit.

At the end of the afternoon, return to the Best Western hotel du lac Dunkerque in Armbouts-Cappel. You can relax in your room or at the bar before the evening meal.

Then, the rally will begin at night in the countryside around Dunkirk. You will have to provide answers to questions of all styles. No specific subject, but general questions on very different subjects. Also, questions relating to monuments or places encountered on your route. Finally, surprise games on your route. At the end of your journey, you will return to the hotel where you can enjoy a well-deserved night’s rest. Do not panic ! You are not going to spend the night on the roads. This night game is not obligatory.

On Sunday 27 October, drive to Gravelines for a visit to the Petit Fort-Philippe lighthouse. After climbing its 116 steps you will be able to benefit, almost 30m above the ground, from a breathtaking view of the Banks of the Aa. Built between 1837 and 1843, this lighthouse was originally all white. But, difficult to spot by sailors, it was repainted in 1932, in black and white. The lighthouse has not been operating since 1989. Since then, the beacons have replaced it on the channel piers. The Lighthouse also presents a permanent exhibition on its history and the lives of the keepers.

Then, you will head towards Espace Tourville, still in Gravelines. On site, a meal will await you at the Jean Bart tavern.

In the afternoon, discover the construction site of the ship “Le Jean Bart”. Sail into the heart of a large-scale experimental archeology project which is working to bring back to life this majestic sailboat, named “Le Jean Bart” in honor of the great Dunkirk corsair. Discover all the traditional know-how that surrounds the trades of historic shipbuilding. From the forge to the model workshop via the artisanal sausage shop and the carpentry workshop, you will immerse yourself in the world of a shipyard of yesteryear.

On the way back, you will follow the coast and pass the Crooked Tower.

At the end of the afternoon, return to the Best Western hotel du lac Dunkerque in Armbouts-Cappel. You can relax in your room or at the bar but also prepare your costumes for the evening. For dinner, everyone in your best outfits for the costume party! Have fun dressing up or dressing up for the meal and the evening. If you are a fan of the 70’s look, superheroes or princesses, this moment will be the opportunity to wear your favorite outfit. At the end of the meal, answers and results are announced, then prizes are awarded to the crews.

Monday 28th October, get up at the time you want! The breakfast room remains open until 10:00. Then everyone is free to return to their home. For those in a hurry, they can leave early in the morning. For the others, it will be possible to extend the stay in the region and discover other curiosities individually.
