Location: Yonne department

PRESENTATION

With pleasure I present to you the 8th  SWEET TRIP. This is a gay classic car rally which will be organised during the 2022  weekend from the 15th until the 18th  april by Dominique Leherre.

For 2022, the SWEET TRIP will take place in the Yonne department around the city of Auxerre. This department of France located about 150 kilometers south-east of Paris is renowned for the vineyards and wines of Chablis but will reveal other secrets to you. Auxerre is easily accessible for all participants using the A6 motorway or the N6. For this SWEET TRIP, you will enjoy your weekend of relaxation with walks, friendly roads, friendly meals and visit the patrimony. In short, the slogan of this weekend is simple and remains the same: come, discover, enjoy and relax with your classic car!

For your convenience, the road book will be available in English as well as in French and the programme is available in 3 languages: Dutch, English and French.

Please note that this event is specifically intended for classic (older than 25 years) and/or exceptional vehicles (rare examples/produced in limited numbers).

I am counting on you to support this new event and hope to welcome you all on the 15th april 2022.

PROGRAMME

Saturday 16th april, direction the village of Saint Bris le Vineux, and more precisely the hamlet of Bailly. Located in this hamlet, the Bailly Lapierre cellar produces its crémants (crémant is a sparkling wine similar to Champagne) in an exceptional setting: an underground stone quarry of 4 hectares, which offers unique natural conditions. The stones from these cellars were once used in the construction of some of the most beautiful monuments such as Notre-Dame de Paris, the Pantheon or even the cathedral of Chartres. Then used as a mushroom farm (1927-1970) thanks to a naturally high humidity level, it will not be used in the wine cellar until 1972. A guided tour of the cellars followed by a tasting of the crement produced on site will await you.

Then, you will take the direction of the village of Venoy for lunch in a local restaurant.

After the meal, you will drive to the village of Ancy le Franc, where the castle of Ancy le Franc is located, an astonishing Renaissance palace, a masterpiece of Serlio, the Italian architect of King François Ier. Built in the heart of a vast park for Antoine III de Clermont, this castle houses one of the largest collections of wall paintings (16th, 17th) currently preserved in France. To discover, the richly decorated apartments, the French or English gardens and 2 new creations of flowerbeds awarded at the “Victoires du Paysage 2018”. Free tour of the castle and the magnificent gardens. After the visit, tasting of Chablis wines produced in the region.

At the end of the afternoon, go back to Mercure Auxerre Nord. Dinner will be taken in the hotel restaurant. For the evening, the bar remains at your disposal for a chat over a drink.

On the way back to Auxerre, you can stop at Pontigny Abbey. The Pontigny Abbey was founded in 1114. It is above all the largest Cistercian abbey in the world (4000 m² on the ground). Over 121 meters long, it dominates the valley with its Gothic bell tower. Built in the pivotal period between Romanesque and Gothic, the abbey has the first Cistercian Gothic art in the area. Admirably preserved, it is now the church of the village of Pontigny.

Sunday 17th April, direction the city of Toucy. On the exit of this city, there is a hidden place: the “Atelier Bernasse” (Bernasse workshop). Some friends in love with old stones and old cars, eager to preserve the heritage and the techniques to maintain these beautiful mechanics, gave birth to Atelier Bernasse, an association based in the historic premises of one of the first motorcycle factories. French, domiciled in Toucy. This former cycle factory, converted into a museum, presents vehicles from the turn of the century, vehicles from the 60’s and 70’s, many engines from the Belle Epoque and motorcycles.

Then direction the town of Saint Fargeau. You will park your cars in the park of the Château de Saint Fargeau. For lunch, you will have lunch in a restaurant in the center of town.

After the meal, return on foot to the castle of Saint Fargeau. The origin of the castle dates is to the 10th century and to the bishop of Auxerre, Héribert, brother of Hugues Capet. Rebuilt, enlarged, embellished by its successive owners, the most famous of which were Jacques Coeur and Mademoiselle de Montpensier known as the Grande Mademoiselle, it looks like a majestic pentagon of pink bricks, with corner towers crowned with campaniles, with an interior courtyard built by Le Vau and an English park. Guided tour of Saint Fargeau castle.

Then you will drive to Rogny les Sept Ecluses. This town is known for its exceptional site: the 7 locks, from which it takes its name. The Briare canal and the 7 locks are part of a gigantic project designed by King Henri IV and Sully from 1597. The objective was to unite the Mediterranean with the Ocean and the English Channel by canals connecting the rivers and enabling a safer, faster and more economical movement of goods and people. Quick stop for the free discovery of the places.

Then, direction the city of Chatillon-Coligny and its Auto Sport Museum. A gathering of enthusiasts’ vehicles, the museum presents a semi-permanent collection of around 80 sports cars and vintage motorcycles. Among these, several unique models in France to discover. Free visit of the museum.

At the end of the afternoon, go back to the Mercure Auxerre Nord hotel. Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant. For the evening, the bar remains at your disposal for a chat over a drink.

Monday 18th april, get up at the time you want! The breakfast room is open until 10:00. Then everyone is free to go back to his home. For those in a hurry, they can leave early in the morning. For the others, it will be possible to keep his room until noon or to extend the stay in the region and to discover individually other curiosities.
